JDNE Advisory Board Member and Alternate
Term of Office
The term of office is for a period of two (2) years. The position is voluntary and the persons will not receive financial compensation.
Role and Responsibilities
The Board Member will be required to:
- Represent the interest of the Jamaican Diaspora that resides in the Northeast USA to the Minister responsible for Diaspora Affairs in the Government of Jamaica.
- Be knowledgeable about the Diaspora – strengths, and needs.
- Maintain a close working relationship with the Consulate General of Jamaica in New York, with responsibility for the Northeast USA.
- Be a focal point for the receipt and dissemination of information that would be relevant to the Jamaican Diaspora, on a timely basis.
- Organize the Jamaican Diaspora to participate in all meetings relevant to the Diaspora including the biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference in Jamaica.
- To attend Advisory Board Member meetings and be prepared to initiate creative efforts for the well-being and development of the Diaspora throughout the Northeast USA.
- Develop and execute financial self-sufficiency.
Criteria for Elected Diaspora Advisory Board Member AND Alternate:
- Be Jamaican or of Jamaican heritage or be eligible to hold Jamaican citizenship.
- Be of legal age.
- Be a resident of any of the following States – Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia.
- Be honorable, trustworthy, and of good moral standing within the community.
- Have sound leadership qualities and organizational skills.
- Have good oral and written communication skills.
- Have no criminal record.
- Knowledge and understanding of social, political and economic issues in the USA and Jamaica.
- Record of active participation within the Diaspora community.
- Be able to finance traveling to Jamaica and Diaspora states.
JDNE Future Leader
Term of Office:
The term of office is for a period two (2) years. Please note that this is a voluntary position and the Future Leader Member will not receive financial compensation for the position
Role and Responsibilities:
The Future Leader Member will be required to:
- Represent the interest of the Jamaican Diaspora that resides in the Northeast USA to the Minister responsible for Diaspora affairs in the Government of Jamaica.
- Build a relationship with stakeholders in Jamaica and the Diaspora Northeast to create economic benefits and sustainable practices for development of youth leaders.
- Maintain a close working relationship with the Consulate General of Jamaica in New York, with responsibility for the Northeast USA.
- Assist the ABM in the receipt and dissemination of information that would be relevant to the youth in the Jamaican Diaspora, on a timely basis.
- Working with counterparts in other regions, assist in organizing the Jamaican Diaspora to participate in all meetings relevant to the Diaspora, including the biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference in Jamaica
- Attend Advisory Board Member meetings as designated/invited and be prepared to initiate creative efforts for the well-being and development of the Diaspora throughout the Northeast USA.
- Develop and execute financial self-sufficiency.
Criteria for elected JDNE Future Leader:
- Be Jamaican or of Jamaican heritage or be eligible to hold Jamaican citizenship.
- Be age 35 or under of legal age.
- Be a resident of any of the following States Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, District Of Columbia Virginia.
- Be honorable, trustworthy, and of good moral standing within the community.
- Have sound leadership qualities and organizational skills.
- Have good oral and written communication skills.
- Have no criminal record.
- Knowledge and understanding of social, political and economic issues in the USA and Jamaica.
- Be able to finance traveling to Jamaica and Diaspora states.
Nomination and Election Process
Nominees must provide:
- A recent official photograph
- A completed Personal Character Fitness Questionnaire
- A completed Character Reference Questionnaire completed by a personal reference
- A brief essay (up to 500 words) outlining your bio and the reason for your interest in being elected to the position.
Applications and accompanying documentation must be submitted by email to: info@jdne.org c/o Rev. Andrew R. Bennett, Sr. election committee chairman no later than May 14, 2017 to be eligible for consideration.
The list of nominees will be circulated electronically by May 18 at www.jdneusa.org and www.callingalljamaicans.org.
Elections:
Given the wide geographical area of the Northeast United States, voting will be conducted electronically via www.callingalljamaicans.org. The elections will be conducted on the following basis:
- Persons wishing to vote must be Jamaicans residing in any of the following states: Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, District Of Columbia Virginia.
- . Each voter will be required to certify that they are indeed Jamaican.
- Voters will be required to go to www.callingalljamaicans.org, follow the voting link, and is permitted to vote only once.
- Voting will end on June 9, 2017
- The person securing the majority of votes will be declared the elected Diaspora Advisory Board Member and the person securing the second largest amount of the votes will be declared the elected Alternate Advisory Board Member.
- The person securing the majority of votes for Future Leader will be declared the elected Future Leader.
- The elected Diaspora Advisory Board Member, Alternate, and Future Leader will be announced electronically and through the media on June 12, 2017.
- Oversight of the process and verification of the results will be supervised by the Election Team.
